5mm Green LED – Diffused High Brightness Indicator Light

The 5mm Green Diffused LED is a standard through-hole indicator light with a wide viewing angle and uniform light diffusion. Its bright green emission makes it ideal for status indicators, power-on signals, and visual feedback in electronics projects and enclosures.

Key Specifications

  • Color: Green
  • Lens Type: Diffused (wide viewing angle ~60°)
  • Diameter: 5mm
  • Forward Voltage (V₀): ~2.0–2.2V
  • Forward Current (I₀): 20mA (max)
  • Luminous Intensity: High brightness
  • Wavelength: ~520–530 nm
  • Mounting: Through Hole, 2-pin

Compatibility & Use Cases

Directly compatible with Arduino, ESP32, NodeMCU, and Raspberry Pi GPIO pins when used with a current-limiting resistor (220Ω for 5V, 68Ω for 3.3V). Common applications include:

  • Power-on and status indicator lights in enclosures
  • GPIO output visual feedback in Arduino/ESP32 projects
  • Traffic light and signal simulation circuits
  • IoT device activity and connectivity indicators
  • STEM and beginner electronics project builds

Always use a series resistor to limit current and protect both the LED and your microcontroller GPIO pin.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which leg is positive?
The longer leg is the anode (+) and connects towards your GPIO pin or supply through the resistor. The shorter leg with the flat edge on the LED rim is the cathode (−) and goes to ground.

What resistor do I need with Arduino?
For a 5V Arduino, a 220Ω resistor gives safe, bright operation. On 3.3V boards like ESP32, 68–100Ω works well. Our 220Ω resistors are the perfect match for a first project.

What does diffused mean?
The lens scatters the light into a soft, even glow visible from a wide angle, unlike clear LEDs that throw a narrow beam. Diffused is the better choice for status indicators.

Can I connect it directly to a GPIO pin without a resistor?
No. An LED without a current-limiting resistor draws too much current and can burn out the LED or damage the pin. Always add the series resistor.
