Gas Leak Detector Project Combo — Arduino Nano + MQ-2 + Buzzer + Relay + LEDs

Build your own Gas Leak Detector & Safety Alarm with this complete project combo from Xsortex HUB. This kit combines the Arduino Nano with the MQ-2 Gas & Smoke Sensor, Active Buzzer, Relay Module, and dual indicator LEDs — giving you a fully functional gas detection system that alerts you to dangerous LPG, methane, smoke, or hydrogen levels and can automatically cut power to an appliance via the relay.

Ideal for students building a home safety project, makers prototyping a smart kitchen alarm, or engineers demonstrating gas sensing and automated relay control with Arduino.

What’s Included in This Combo?

  • 1× Arduino Nano — ATmega328P, 5V, 14 digital I/O, 8 analog inputs, Mini-USB / Type-C
  • 1× MQ-2 Gas & Smoke Sensor Module — Detects LPG, methane, smoke, hydrogen & propane; analog + digital output; 5V
  • 1× 3V Active Buzzer — Loud audible alarm on gas detection
  • 5× 5mm Red LED — Danger indicator — lights up when gas is detected
  • 5× 5mm Green LED — Safe indicator — lights up when air is clean
  • 5× 220Ω Resistors — Current-limiting resistors for Red and Green LEDs
  • 1× 1-Channel Relay Module — 5V coil, 10A/250VAC — auto-cut power to gas appliance on detection
  • Jumper Wires —  male-to-female for breadboard connections
  • Breadboard — 400-point solderless breadboard for prototyping

How It Works

The MQ-2 sensor continuously monitors the surrounding air for combustible gases and smoke. Its analog output is read by the Arduino Nano’s ADC. When gas concentration exceeds a safe threshold:

  • 🔴 Red LED turns ON (danger alert)
  • 🟢 Green LED turns OFF
  • 🔔 Buzzer sounds a continuous alarm
  • Relay trips to cut power to a connected gas appliance or exhaust fan

When air returns to safe levels, the system resets automatically — green LED on, buzzer off, relay restored.

Key Specifications

  • Microcontroller: Arduino Nano (ATmega328P)
  • Gas Sensor: MQ-2 — LPG, methane, smoke, hydrogen, propane; analog + digital output; 5V
  • Indicators: 5mm Red LED (danger) + 5mm Green LED (safe), both with 220Ω resistors
  • Alert: 3V Active Buzzer
  • Relay: 1-Channel, 5V coil, 10A/250VAC — controls external appliance
  • Power: 5V via USB from Arduino Nano
  • Programming: Arduino IDE — no extra libraries required

Use Cases

  • Home kitchen LPG gas leak alarm
  • Smoke and fire early warning system
  • Automatic exhaust fan activation on gas detection
  • Industrial gas monitoring prototype
  • Engineering college safety & IoT project
