RFID Security & Access Control Project Combo — Arduino Nano + MFRC522 + 16x2 LCD + Buzzer

Build your own RFID-based Security & Access Control System with this complete project combo from Xsortex HUB. This kit combines the Arduino Nano with the MFRC522 RFID Reader, a 16x2 LCD Display, and an Active Buzzer — giving you everything needed to scan RFID cards or key fobs, authenticate users, and display access status in real time.

Perfect for students building a smart lock or attendance system, makers prototyping a contactless access solution, or engineers demonstrating RFID-based authentication. No soldering required — wire it up on a breadboard and start coding.

What’s Included in This Combo?

  • 1× Arduino Nano — ATmega328P, 5V, 14 digital I/O, 8 analog inputs, Mini-USB / Type-C
  • 1× MFRC522 RFID Reader Module — 13.56MHz contactless, SPI interface, includes RFID card & key fob, 3.3V logic
  • 1× 16x2 LCD Display — HD44780 controller, blue backlight, 5V, 16 columns × 2 rows
  • 1× Active Buzzer — Audible feedback for access granted / denied events
  • Jumper Wires — female-to-female

How It Works

The MFRC522 reads the unique UID from an RFID card or key fob via 13.56MHz contactless communication. The Arduino Nano compares the scanned UID against a list of authorised IDs stored in the code. If the UID matches, the LCD displays “Access Granted” and the buzzer beeps once. If not, the LCD shows “Access Denied” and the buzzer sounds a longer alert tone.

Key Specifications

  • Microcontroller: Arduino Nano (ATmega328P)
  • RFID Module: MFRC522 — 13.56MHz, SPI interface, 3.3V, read range up to 5cm
  • Display: 16x2 LCD (HD44780, blue backlight)
  • Feedback: Active Buzzer — distinct tones for granted/denied
  • Power: 5V via USB from Arduino Nano (MFRC522 runs on 3.3V from Nano’s onboard regulator)
  • Programming: Arduino IDE with MFRC522 and LiquidCrystal libraries

Use Cases

  • RFID door lock and smart access control system
  • Student attendance tracking system
  • Contactless identity verification demo
  • Secure locker or cabinet access project
  • Engineering college security & IoT project

Frequently Asked Questions

How many RFID cards or tags can I authorise?
As many as fit in your code. Each UID is just a few bytes, so you can comfortably store dozens of authorised cards in the sketch. For larger lists, you can store UIDs in EEPROM or on an SD card.

Will the MFRC522 read my office or hotel access card?
It reads standard 13.56MHz MIFARE-type cards and key fobs, which many simple access cards use. Encrypted or proprietary cards may only return their UID. The included card and key fob are guaranteed to work out of the box.

Can I connect a door lock or solenoid to this kit?
Yes. Add a relay module or a transistor driver between the Nano and a 12V solenoid lock, and trigger it on an “Access Granted” match. That is the most common upgrade path for this project.

Which Arduino libraries do I need?
Install the MFRC522 library by GithubCommunity and the built-in LiquidCrystal library from the Arduino IDE library manager. Both are free and come with ready example sketches you can adapt in minutes.
